There has been some discussion in general chat about hauler size. This is really crucial to how the game developed post release so let me jot down my thoughts on it for a discussion.
Post release the largest hauler bot was a sequer (80U). Beta stations had several (usually 3) big static red mining spots of everything you needed to mine within 1500m. Ore did not respawn immediately meaning that the low level ore spawns on Alpha were mined out quite quickly. This meant that it was difficult to move ore but very easy to mine and produce in a Beta station. In addition those stations were unlocked meaning that it was also pretty low risk. You could gank if you were well prepared but if the miner was awake there was a good chance they could get away.
Currently we have 7 haulers but the basic ones are Sequer (80U), Lithus (280 U) and Scarab (720 U). In addition there is a need to go to other islands to mine due to regional ore. The same with harvesting. Ore spots are no longer big and red and now they move throughout the island making travel distances more like 3000m. They also immediately respawn. In addition a Beta station can be locked.
What the Beta mechanics have done is make mining on Beta dangerous and difficult. For this reason mining of anything but Epriton became rare. In addition the ease of mining on alpha increased tenfold. This made most mining happen on Alpha. Hauler size made moving the ore to Beta much safer as the haulers were much larger. Less trips is more safety.
To summarize my opinion is that Beta should have a series of corporations living in stations and mining and building within them. No one mechanic enables this but a series strung together to provide the right environment.
Of these the most important is hauler size. Larger haulers make moving material from Alpha easier and safer.
So my recommendations:
1) Change hauler sizes to Sequer (40U) Lithus (80U) Scarab (300 U)
2) Make alpha mining spots in the 0.5m ore range and only have three per alpha 1 and 5 per alpha 2
3) Make Beta 1 stations open and Beta 2 stations lockable
4) Give Beta 1 and 2 islands enough medium dark red mining spots of ALL ore so that the dynamic of ore within 1500m of all types exists again
5) Make Beta 1 stations have facilities ~50% more efficient than alpha 2, Beta 2 able to be 100% more efficient and Gamma tbc.
This would allow corps to move to a beta station and have their little bubble of quasi safety that can still cause kills. You would have a home instead of a base that requires hauling from several other locations. Moving stuff from one location to another would be dangerous and require significant effort.
And the most important thing, roaming would be great again.
